I am the author of the forthcoming How to Be Wretched (Riverhead Books, 2027), a reported memoir about grief, science and fact-checking.

As a journalist and editor, I spent most of my career at The New York Times Magazine, where I edited features and interviews as well as the beloved "Lives" column. My writing has appeared in The Cut, Longreads, The New York Times and elsewhere.

My book also covers my lifelong work with horses. I am a graduate A and former National Examiner with the United States Pony Clubs, and have competed in eventing, show jumping and dressage,

I live in New York with my family.
