I am the author of the forthcoming How to Be Wretched (Riverhead Books, 2027), a reported memoir about grief, science and fact-checking.

As a journalist and editor, I spent most of my career at The New York Times Magazine, where I edited features and interviews as well as the beloved "Lives" column. My writing has appeared in The Cut, Longreads, and The New York Times.

A lifelong equestrian, I am a graduate A and former National Examiner with the United States Pony Clubs, On Substack, I write a column about equestrian sports.

I live in New York with my family.
